(TOPAZE CLASS.)

TOPAZE (July, 1903), AMETHYST (Nov., 1903).

  • Displacement, 3000 tons.
  • Complement, 290 - 300.
  • Dimensions: 360 x 40 x 14.5 feet (mean, draught).
  • Guns: Topaze, 12 - 4 inch, 1 - 6 pdr. AA., 2 - 3 pdr. AA., 1 - 6 pdr., 3 M.G. ; Amethyst, 2 - 6 inch, 8 - 4 inch, 2 - 3 pdr., 3 M.G. Torpedo tubes (18 inch): 2 above water.
  • Armour (steel) : 2" Deck.
  • Machinery: 2 sets triple expansion, except Amethyst, Parsons turbine. 2 screws.
  • Boilers : Normand-Laird in Topaze, Yarrow in Amethyst. Max.
  • H.P. Topaze, 9800 = 22 .2 kts. Amethyst, 12,000 = 23.4 kts. nominal.
  • Coal : normal, 300 tons; maximum, 750 tons.
  • Built under 1902 - 3 Estimates.

(TALBOT CLASS)

TALBOT (April, 1895), VENUS (Sept., 1895), DORIS (March, 1896).

  • Displacement, 5600 tons.
  • Complement, 393.
  • Dimensions : 364 (w.l.) x 54 x 23 feet (max. draught). Length over all, 370.33 feet.
  • Guns: 9 - 6 inch, 45 cal. M. VII, 4 - 12 pdr., 12 cwt., 1 - 3 pdr., 2 M.G.
  • Torpedo tubes (18 inch) : 2 submerged, 1 above water (stern).
  • Armour: 2.5" Armour deck, Protection to vitals, 6" Engine hatches, 6" Conning tower (Harvey).
  • Machinery: 2 sets inverted triple expansion. 2 screws.
  • Boilers: 8 single-ended cylindrical.
  • Designed H.P. natural 8000 = 18.5 kts. ; forced 9600 = 19 5 kts.
  • Coal : normal, 550 tons ; maximum, 1065 tons.

(APOLLO CLASS.)

ANDROMACHE (1890), LATONA (1890), NAIAD (1890). 3400 tons.

  • Complement, 273.
  • Dimensions : (p.p.) 300 x 43.66 x 18 feet.
  • Guns: 1 small.
  • Armour: 2" Deck.
  • Designed H.P. 7000 = 18.5 kts. (nat.); 9000 = 20 kts. (f.d.).
  • Coal: maximum, 560 tons.

Built under Naval Defence Act, 1889.

Converted to Minelayers about. 1910, but not so used now.
