ST. GEORGE (1890). 7700 tons.

  • Cruiser of Edgar type; converted 1911.
  • Dimensions: 360 (p.p.) x 60.75 x 23.75 feet (mean draught).
  • Guns: 2 - 6 inch, 2 - 12 pdr. AA., 2 - 3 pdr. AA.
  • Designed H.P. 12,000 = 19.5 kts. (present maximum H.P. 7000 for about 15-16 kts.). Coal : normal, 850 tons; maximum, 1120 tons.
  • Complement, 301.

Tenders to St. George : 2 Drifters.

VULCAN (1889). 6620 tons.

  • Rebuilt. 1908.
  • Dimensions: 350 x 58 x 23.25 feet. (max. draught).
  • Guns: 2 - 8.7 inch.
  • Armour: 5" deck (amidships), 6" conning tower, 5" engine hatches.
  • Designed H.P. 12,000 = 20 kts. Can do now about 16 kts. Coal: maximum 1347 tons. Dürr boilers (1909).
  • Complement, 255.

Tenders to Vulcan: Alecto and 1 Drifter.

THAMES (1885) & FORTH (1886). 4050 tons.

  • Dimension: 300 (p.p.) x 46 x 19.75 feet (max. draught).
  • No guns.
  • Designed H.P. 5700 = 17.2 kts. originally. Coal : 740 tons maximum.
  • Fitted as Floating Workshops.
  • Complement 187.

Tenders to Thames: Fermoy, 1 Drifter.

Tenders to Forth : Elgin, Forres, 4 Trawlers.
