Guns: 2 - 15 inch (Dir. Con. H.A. elevation), 8 - 4 inch, 2 - 12 pdr., 2 - 3 inch AA., 2 - 2 pdr. AA.

  • Length, 340 (p.p.), 355.66 (o.a.) feet. Beam, 90.25 feet. Draught, 10.5 feet.
  • Gun: As noted above.
  • Armour: in Soult only, 8" Barbette, 13"-4.25" Gunhouse: in both, 4" Bulkheads fore and aft, 6" C.T., 4" - 1" Box Citadel over Magazine, l" Fo'xle Deck, 2" - 1.5" Upper Deck, Lower Deck 3" at bow, 1.5" at stern, 1" Navig. Position. Deep Bulge Protection.
  • Machinery: 2 sets Diesel. 1. 2 screws. Designed H.P.. 1500 = 6.7 kts. Fuel: 235 tons, maximum. oil only.

General Notes.- Emergency War Programme. M. Ney practically a failure, on account of her engines being highly unreliable. 15 inch guns and barbette removed from her about 1917, and she was moored as Guard-Ship in the Downs.

  • Displacement, 5900 tons.
  • Complements, 237.
  • Length, 320 (p.p.), 335.5 (o.a.) feet. Beam, 87.25 feet. Draught. 10.5 feet.
  • Guns: 2 - 12 inch, M. VIII, 25 cal. 4 to 2 - 6 inch 2 - 12 pdr. 2 - 3 inch AA. 2 - 2 pdr. anti-aircraft. 4 M. G.
  • Armour (Krupp): 6" Bulkheads F. & A.., 8" - 2" Barbettes, 10.5" - 2" Gunhouse, 6" Conning tower, 1" Foxle deck, 6" Upper deck (slopes), 2" Upper deck, 1.5" Main deck, Anti-torpedo protection: Deep bulges.
  • Machinery: Triple expansion. 2 screw,. Boiler, : Babcock & Wilcox. Designed H.P. 2310 (?) = 6.7 kts. 2 screws. Coal : 350 tons, maximum.

General Notes.- Emergency War Programme. Armed with 12 inch from old Majestics. These Monitors are extremely slow and unwieldy - in fact against a strong head wind and sea, they can only make 1 or 2 kts. But most remarkably steady gun platforms, on account of their huge beam and bulges.
