Notes to above Table.

Excepting H 21 - 52 of "Holland" type, all above types are to Admiralty design. Above Table and description by classes on later pages, arranged alphabetically by Class Letters. Rough division by types and building dates is thus:

61 Ocean-going boats: L 1 - 71, M 1 - 4 (Monitors), K 2 - 16 and K 22, G 3-13.

54 Sea-going boats: H 21 - 52, E 21 - 55.

12 Coastal boats: R 1 - 12 (F 1 - 3 not included).

- Minelayers: Various units of L, H and E types; exact total not known.

As regards the totals given over Table for boats finished and building: These are approximate only, some of the 27 boats given as building may not be finished. Six " Later K " boats not mentioned in Table or included in total, as they seem to be stopped. Coastal F 1 - 5 not included in total of completed boats, as they will be sold very soon. The E, and G Classes will probably be sold off within the next eighteen months.

With reference to missing Class Letters in alphabetical order, the following brief notes may be of service. All A, B, C and D boats sold off or for sale. J Class presented to Australia. N 1 (late Nautilus) for sale 1919, having proved more or less a failure. S 1 (late Swordfish) converted into surface patrol boat. V 1 - 4 for sale 1919. W I - 4 presented to Italy during the War. No I, 0, P, Q, T, U, X, Y, Z Classes.

Various surrendered German Submarines are in service under the White Ensign, but only for experiments. By agreement with all the Allies, such ex-German boats will not be added to the British Navy, but must be broken up when trials are finished.
